DHAKA: A school girl has reportedly committed suicide following her father’s rebuke for watching an Indian television channel Star Jalsha at Agran village under Baraigram upazila of the district.

The incident, which took place on last night, was disclosed on Monday.

Sources told banglanews that the deceased Swarna Khatun, 12, daughter of Wahidul Islam and also a student of class seven at Agran High School, was buried at noon on the day.

According to the sources, the girl, who was watching a daily soap opera on Star Jalsha before the incident, killed herself as her father switched off the television and asked her to study.

Confirming the death, Baraigram Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Saiful Islam said that Swarna, after failing to watch the channel, went inside her room and hanged herself.

She was declared dead on arrival at the Upazila Health Complex, the officer added.

Later, according to the SI, police allowed her family to burry the girl on their request without autopsy as no one complained against the death.
