MAGURA: An extremist was killed in a gunfight between police and local terror gang in Khalimpur village under Sadar upazila of the district early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Daud Hossian alias Tiger Daud, 40, son of late Babar Ali of Gouricharanpur area of the upazila.
Magura’s assistant superintendent of police (circle) Sudarshan Kumar confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Sudarshan added: “Police arrested Daud, number four in the list of extremists of the district DB of police, from Baraichara village of the upazila around 12:00am.”
Getting information from the arrestee, police raided Khalimpur where Daud’s cohorts fire bullets targeting lawpersons. Police retaliated with gunshot that triggered a gunfight.
Daud was caught in the line of fire, leaving him critically injured.
He was taken to the district Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead around 3:00am. Hospital’s emergency medical officer Dr. Rakibul Islam confirmed the death to banglanews.
Police also recovered three foreign-made arms --- a three knot three (.303) rifle, a shooter gun, and an air rifle -- and 21 rounds of bullets from the spot.
The body has been kept at Sadar Thana, which will be handed over to the family after autopsy.
Process was underway to file a case in this connection.
Daud was accused in at least 10 different cases including that of six killing cases and several other arms cases.
