DHAKA: The two-day polls of Dhaka Bar Association, country’s largest lawyers’ organization, began from Wednesday morning to elect a new executive committee of the association for 2015-2016.

The voting will end on February 26 where a number of 61 candidates from pro-Awami League ‘White Panel’, Pro-BNP and Jamaat ‘Blue Panel’ and independent candidates’ ‘Green Panel’ are vying for a total of 25 posts.

Advocate SM Altaf Hossain, chief election commissioner of the Dhaka Bar, hoped that more that lawyers will cast their votes to choose their leaders for next one year.

According to the voter-list, a total of 15,372 voters are eligible to cast their votes this year.

However, the BNP-Jamaat backed Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya (Blue Panel) swept the Dhaka Bar Association elections 2014-15 by bagging 18 posts out of 25, including the president and general secretary posts.

On the other hand, the ruling Awami League-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannay Parishad (White Panel) secured only six posts in that elections.
