DHAKA: Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar arrived in Dhaka Monday as a part of his first phase 4-nation tour named “SAARC Yatra” to SAARC countries.

Druk Air, the national carrier of the Royal Government of Bhutan, landed at Shahjalal International Airport at 11:15am. He started his SAARC visit from Bhutan.

It is his maiden trip to Dhaka after taking office as the Indian foreign secretary on January 29.

The Indian foreign secretary will hold meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart Shahidul Haque and call on Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali at the foreign ministry at 3.30 pm.

Different bilateral issues especially the pending matters between the two countries would dominate the meeting of the two foreign secretaries.

Jaishankar will also pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the afternoon at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Besides, ministry of foreign affairs will host a lunch in his honour at the State Guest House Padma. He will also join a reception to be hosted by Indian Embassy in Dhaka in the evening.

Jaishankar's visit is aimed at conveying Delhi's intention of resolving outstanding issues like Teesta water sharing and implementation of Land Boundary Agreement (LBA).

The Indian foreign secretary would leave Dhaka for Islamabad on Tuesday morning. He will conclude his first phase of the four nations trip from Afghanistan on March 4.
