DHAKA: Severely injured Rafida Ahamed Banya, wife of slain blogger and writer Avijit Roy, is headed to the USA for advanced medical treatment.

Banya’s father-in-law and also ex-professor of Dhaka University Ajay Roy said the aircraft carrying Banya left Dhaka for America. The plane will take stopover in Istanbul.

Professor Ajay said a specialist from Hong Kong will be in the USA for regular care.

Earlier on Thursday night (February 26), Abhijit Roy, 37, was hacked to death and his wife, Rafida Ahamed Banya, 34, injured critically by a group of miscreants at TSC intersection of Dhaka University (DU).

Banya was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to Square Hospitals in city.

The hospital sources said she was taken under American Embassy’s custody on Monday.
