DHAKA: A total of 266 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel were deployed on Wednesday across the country to thwart sabotages amid nationwide hartal and non-stop blockade, sponsored by BNP-led 20-party alliance.

Additional 70 platoons have also been kept reserved for emergency deployment.

BGB Headquarters’ public relations officer Mohammad Mohsin Reza confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Reza said that some 266 platoons BGB are posted across the country. They began patrolling from 6:00am on Wednesday.

At least 12 platoons have been posted inside Dhaka city from 6:00am to 6:00pm while 243 platoons BGB are on duty in rest parts of the country.

According to Reza, outside Dhaka, 111 platoons will escort the running vehicles on the highways.

However, 143 platoons will provide security in different places of the country to prevent sabotages and keep the law and order situations under control.

They will be on duty for next twenty four hours from 6:00am on Wednesday.

Moreover, 70 more platoons BGB have also been prepared for deployment anywhere of the country when it will be necessary, Reza added.
