DHAKA: Bangladesh information minister Hasanul Huq Inu had a meeting with Communications and Informatics Minister of Indonesia Rudiantara in Jakarta Thursday morning (local time).
Both Ministers discussed and exchanged views about their respective countries existing system of organizational structure, supervision and laws on information broadcasting, said a press release issued by foreign ministry of Bangladesh.
It said Hasanul Huq Inu highlighted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s consistent eagerness and continuous initiatives to march Bangladesh towards an open democracy through a vibrant mass media system.
He emphasized that both Bangladesh and Indonesia need to work together in close cooperation to share their experiences in formulizing cyber law to combat cyber crime which is the prime challenge of an open mass media.
Minister of Bangladesh also referred to his meeting with Dr. Din Syamsuddin, Chairman, Majelis Ulama Indonesia and other religious leaders of the region during a High-level Summit of Buddhist and Muslim Leaders entitled “Overcoming Extremism and Advancing Peace with Justice”.
Recalling the meeting, he addressed the importance of combating terrorism in the name of religious militancy and using of media as this is a great threat for the both Muslim majority countries Bangladesh and Indonesia.
He also highlighted the initiatives and actions of the government in Bangladesh to further strengthen harmony among people of all religions during his address at the high level Summit.
Inu proposed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the organizations like BSS, TV, Radio with their counterpart organizations in Indonesia to exchange programs and information on socio-cultural, religious and economic structures.
He also highlighted the possibility of establishing ASEAN highway telestorial broadcasting cable to ease and develop the existing wireless broadband and requested Rudiantara to raise the issue with other ASEAN nations.
He further requested his counterpart to exchange Indonesia’s experience to combat cyber crime in mass media.
Later, Inu extended invitation to Rudiantara to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time and both of them exchanged traditional souvenirs as symbol of long lasting brotherly bilateral relationship and cooperation.
Bangladesh ambassador to Indonesia Md. Nazmul Quaunine and Counsellor Ms Seheli Sabrin were present in the meeting.
Hasanul Huq Inu is paying an official visit in Indonesia from March 02 to 06 of 2015.
