LAXMIPUR: Alleged hartal and blockade supporters set fire to the Executive Engineers office of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) in the district Thursday night.

Deputy Divisional Engineer Foyez Ahmed of RHD confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said some miscreants set ablaze the office pouring petrol through the window around 9:00pm.

Some documents and furniture of the office were gutted in the fire, he added.

Being informed, a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

However, District Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Nasim Miah told banglanews that the law enforcers detained security guard of the office, Abdul Matin, for interrogation and recovered a bottle of petrol from the spot.

Sources said Laxmipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) AKM Tipu Sultan visited the spot.

The SP said police has already started the drives to arrest the arson attackers.
