DHAKA: A man was killed and eight others, including three of a family, were injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Kawla under airport thana Friday.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The injured—Ismail Hossain, 35, his wife Joynab Begum, 25, their daughter Israt Jahan, 5, Lutfar Rahman Shamim, 29, Rima Akter, 20, Mizanur Rahman, 50, Rahatul Bibi, 50, and Saidul Islam, 13—were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Of them, the condition of Shamim and Rima is critical, said hospital sources.

Injured Saidul, who is undergoing treatment to DMCH, told banglanews that a Jatrabari-bound bus of Chhachhabil Paribahan, coming from Tongi, plunged into roadside ditch near Kowla Bridge as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving one passenger dead and eight others injured.
 
Confirming the matter, Airport thana officer-in-charge (Investigation) Shafikul Islam told banglanews that on information, a team of police visited the spot.
