CHITTAGONG: An explosion took place in a scrap ship at a ship-breaking yard at Madam Bibir Hat in Sitakunda Sunday, leaving seven workers badly burnt.

Police said the explosion took place at about 1:30pm while the workers of ZN Enterprise were cutting an oil tank of a scrap ship.

The injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. They are Saiful, Nawab Ali, Rony, Razzak, Shahidur Rahman, Milon and Belal.

Though it is growing as a job-providing industrial venture, ship breaking is a risky job that causes huge fatalities every year.
