USAID inks to strengthen capacity of DAE

DHAKA: The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) and the USAID Agricultural Extension Support Activity (Ag Extension Project) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the existing capacity of DAE.

The signing ceremony was held at DAE’s Conference Room in Khamarbari area of the city on Sunday.

The objectives of the MoU are to strengthen the existing capacity of DAE to deliver effective, innovative and value chain-based extension services, and to provide enhanced support to smallholder farmers both men and women in southwest Bangladesh.

They MoU also inked in lieu of promoting communication and collaboration between the two organizations, said a press release.

Director Sunil Chandra Dhar of Horticulture Wing and Deputy Chief Shoeb Uddin Ahmed of Party of the Ag Extension Project were signed at the MoU on behalf of their organizations.

The Executive Director Dr M Ehsanur Rahman of Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM), Director Anowarul Haq of ERPP of CARE Bangladesh and Senior Program and Research Manager Hasib Ahsan at mPower, were present at the event.

As one of the cornerstone activities proposed for implementation under the MoU, DAE and the Ag Extension Project will demonstrate an improved demand-driven agextension service delivery model in four upazilas.

They are Barisal Sadar, Faridpur Sadar, Chowgacha (Jessore) and Kalia (Narail).

The release also said in 2014, USAID provided more than $200 million to improve the lives of people in Bangladesh.

USAID supports programs in Bangladesh that promote democratic institutions and practices, expand food security and economic opportunity, improve health and education services, and increase resiliency to climate change through adaptation and low carbon development.
