DHAKA: Kaler Kantho journalist Mahtab Hossain was seriously injured as muggers chopped him while snatching his valuables in Mohammadpur area early Monday.

Mahtab Hossain, hailing from Parbartipur upazila of Dinajpur, has been working as a Sub-Editor at Kaler Kantho and residing on Zakir Hossain Road in city’s Mohammadpur area.

The victim’s friends Qamruzzman Sumon and Iftekhar Alam told banglanews that the journalist was returning from his village after a night journey and awaiting to enter his city house.

At one stage, two muggers attacked Mahtab around 4:45am, chopped him with machete on his shoulder, back and legs as they failed to snatch his mobile phone, wallet and luggage.

After listening to the hue and cry, Mahtab’s friends rushed out into the street and rescued him. They whisked him off to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Mahtab’s is now out of dangers, said an on-duty doctor at emergency unit of the hospital.
