SIRAJGANJ: An alleged ‘pir’ beat his follower to death in Belkuchi upazila of the district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Joy Hossain, 24, son of Momin Mollah of Tamai village of the upazila.

The victim’s family and local sources said the alleged ‘pir’, Bellal Hossain, beat Joy mercilessly around 3:00pm Sunday over the affair between Joy and Bellal’s daughter, leaving him severely injured.

Locals rushed him to Belkuchi Upazila Health Complex around 9:00pm Sunday where the attending doctors declared him dead around 12:30am Monday.

However, police have detained the ‘pir’.
