JHENAIDAH: A suspected robber was killed and three lawmen sustained injuries in a gunfight between police and robber gang in Shalikha intersection under Kaliganj Upazila of the district early Saturday.

Indefinites of the deceased and the injured could not be known.

Kaliganj Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Anwar Hossain told banglanews that a gang of robbers were carrying out robbery at the intersection on Mollikpur road of the upazila around 3:30am.

At that time a patrol team of police reached there. Sensing lawpersons’ presence, the gang began firing targeting them. Police also retaliated with gunshot in self-defense, forcing the gang to retreat the scene.

Later, police rescued a robber, who sustained bullet injuries, and rushed him to Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead. The injured policemen were also admitted there.

Police also recovered two revolvers, a machete, a knife and a piece of rope from the spot.

The body has been kept at District Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed with Kaliganj Thana in this connection.
