DHAKA: To improve the education standard in districts the government gave high quality vehicles to 32 District Education Officers (DEOs) from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid handed over the vehicles to the DEOs in Dhaka Residential Model College auditorium of the city on Saturday.
The DEO’s of Sylhet, Jessore, Patuakhali, Brahmanbaria, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Tangail, Bogra, Chittagong, Kishoreganj, Dhaka, Gazipur, Comilla, Noakhali, Bandarban, Netrokona, Madaripur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Rangpur, Gopalganj, Jhalkathi, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Khulna, Barisal, Narayanganj, Faridpur, Sunamganj, Manikganj, Nilphamary and Bhola districts received the vehicles.
Pointing to the officers, the education minister said, “You will supervise the development in education sector in your districts to improve the quality of education and the vehicles will be used for this.”
A total of 32 principles of technical schools and colleges also got reconditioned vehicles.
However, the vehicles were handed over under the Teaching Quality Improvemnet-2 project costing $85 million USD. Among the cost, ADB provided $70 million USD as loan while the government gave the rest.
Education ministry additional secretary Swapan Kumar, project director Banamali Bhowmick and technical education division joint director Sheikh Alamgir Hossain, among others, were present at the car distribution ceremony.
