CHITTAGONG: At least 11 shops were gutted as a fire broke out in Kashia Nayahat Bazar under Patiya Upazila of the district Saturday night.

Patiya Fire Station officer Dolan Achariya said the fire originated from electric short-circuit in a shop around 10:45pm and soon engulfed adjacent 10 shops of the bazaar.

Being informed, a fire fighting unit from Patiya Fire Service rushed to the spot and doused the fire after two and half hours frantic efforts around 1:15am Sunday.

The loss caused by the fire was estimated at about Tk 7 lakh.
