40 students injured in Rangpur transformer blast

RANGPUR: At least 40 students and a teacher of Robertsonganj Girls High School were injured as they tried to come out from a classroom in panic following a transformer blast adjacent to the school in Rangpur town.

Among the injured, Rubina Akhtar, a student of class 7 and Mahini Akhtar, a student of class 9, were admitted to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

However, the incident took place as an electric transformer of Water Development Board near the school was blasted at 1:00pm on Sunday.

Head teacher of the school Abdullah Hel Baki told banglanews that the panic-stricken students rushed to leave classroom following the blast of an electric transformer of Water Development Board leaving at least 40 students and a teacher injured.

Two of them are admitted at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital, he added.

Blaming the Water Development Board authorities concerned, Baki said that they complained several times following the previous blasts of the transformer but did not get any solution.
