BARISAL: A man was burnt to death and four others sustained burn injuries as a fire broke out at a medicine factory in Purba Bagura Road area in the city early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Neser Payda, 45, a painter in the factory and son of Abul Payda of Galachipa upazila in Patuakhali.

Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital emergency unit Dr Habibur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Sources said the fire broke out at factory of Opsonin Pharma Ltd in the area around 2:00am.

Being informed, five fire fighting units rushed to spot and doused the fire after three hours hectic efforts and rescued five people.

The five burn injured --Jakir Hossain, Faruk Hawlader, Sidam Nandi, Abdur Rashid and Neser Payda-- were sent to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital where Neser succumbed to his injuries this morning.
