DINAJPUR: Mother and son were killed as lightning struck them near Baniapara BRAC office at Birol upazila of the district Monday evening.

The victims were identified as Monowara Begum (45), wife of Abdul Khaleque and their son Mahbur Rahman (25).

Local sources said that Mahbur, with his mother, was returning their village from Dinajpur at evening.

It was raining when they reached near Baniapara BRAC office, where lightning struck them leaving the duo dead on the spot.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Birol Thana sub-inspector (SI) Nuruzzaman said that lightning struck the duo near the BRAC office of the area around 7:00pm, leaving them dead on the spot.

Their bodies were kept in Biral Upazila Health Complex, he added.
