Meghna trawler capsize kills 2, 10 missing

MUNSHIGANJ: Two people were killed when a trawler, carrying 60-70 passengers, capsized in Meghna River of Gazaria upazila of the district early Thursday.

At least 10 people including women and children are still missing.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Gazaria Thana Habibullah confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said the Beltati-bound trawler coming from Daudkandhi Ghat sunk as a sand-laden bulk hit the trawler near Gazaria around 9:00pm Wednesday.

Being informed, two units of Fire Service from Gazaria and Comilla rushed to the spot and are trying to rescue the trawler passengers.

Later, the fire fighters recovered two bodies from the spot early Thursday.

However, most of the passengers were rescued, but some 10 people are still missing.

The rescue mission is underway, the SI added.
