DHAKA: A total of 23 Bangladeshis have been nationals evacuated from war-torn Yemen so far with the help of Indian government so far.
Two Air India flights and an Indian Navy ship carried them to Djibouti from Sana, capital city of Yemen, and Aden. The Bangladeshis are now staying at a hotel in Djibouti.
Bangladeshi embassy in Kuwait councilor (political) SM Mahbub Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews. He is also one of the officers at the camp for reused Bangladeshis in Djibouti.
Mahbub said that the rescue operation for trapped Bangladeshi has begun with the assistance of India. Meanwhile, 23 Bangladeshis have been brought to Djibouti.
A total of 480 Bangladeshis have been register to come home so far. They will be brought back in three groups, he added.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs, on its twitter account, said that three Bangladeshis were brought back in airway and 16 others in waterway.
Sources of Foreign Ministry said government has began process to send planes to bring Bangladeshis safe from Yemen as thry obtained permission to land plane in Sana and Djibouti from Saudi Arabian and Djiboutian governments respectively.
The ministry was also considering sending a ship from Chittagong for Yemen.
According the sources, some 1,500 to 3,000 Bangladeshis are staying in Yemen. However, all of them are not willing to return home despite the war.
