N’ganj road crash kills brother, sister

NARAYANGANJ:  A doctor and his sister were killed and two others injured in a collision between a covered van and a private car in Chanpara area under Araihazar Upazila of the district Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Dr. Nuruzzaman Khokon, 40, an orthopedic surgeon of Tangail Sadar Hospital, and his sister Ferdousi Rahman, 35. They were son and daughter of late Ahammed Ali of Nagariakandi of Narsingdi.

Details of the injured could not be known.

Nuruzzaman was the social welfare affairs secretary of the central committee of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), a pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party professional body.

Police sources said the private car, carrying the victims, was going toward Tangail from Narshingdi. On arrival at Chanpara, the car collided head-on with a covered van around 11:30pm, leaving Nuruzzaman dead on the spot and three others injured.

The injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where Ferdousi succumbed to her injuries early Saturday.

Araihazar Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) M Alamgir confirmed the matter to banglanews.
