Ashulia robbery death toll rises to 9

DHAKA: A man, who sustained injuries during Ashulia bank robbery, died at Enam Medical College and Hospital (EMCH) in Savar on Friday night, raising the death toll to nine.

The deceased was identified as Aiyub Ali, 70, retired Nayek of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and a resident of Kathgara area of Ashulia.

Aiyub lost his four days’ battle for life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital around 9:15pm, said Rezaul Karim, assistant professor of ICU department of the EMCH.

He left behind a son, two daughters and wife.

Earlier, April 21, a gang of robbers stormed into the Kathgara branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Ltd. While trying to flee the scene looting Tk 35 lakh, the robbers opened fire and exploded bombs, leaving five people, including the bank’s manager, shot dead on the spot.

Two others also succumbed to their bullet wounds at EMCH on that day while a robber was killed in mob beating.
