DHAKA: A worker died and about 100 people, mostly women, were injured when a stampede broke out at an apparel factory in Karnapara area of Savar, outskirts of capital Dhaka, on Saturday noon as earthquakes created panic there.
Of the inured, 20 people were in critical condition, said physicians. Neither the deceased nor the injured could be identified immediately.
Sources said that panic griped among the workers of Al Muslim Group when the quake jolted the country around 12:11pm.
As several thousands workers tried to escape the building altogether, leading to break out a stampede that left nearly 100 people injured.
The injured were admitted at different local hospitals and clinics, including Enam Medical College and Hospital, sources of the factory authorities told banglanews.
Police forces have also been deployed in nearby areas of the factory and the hospitals to keep the law and order situation normal.
A 7.5 earthquake has hit Bangladesh, 745 km (North- West of BMD Seismic Centre, Agargaon on Saturday noon, followed by aftershocks for eight more times, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department
United States Geological Survey said a 7.9-magnitude of earthquake jolted Lamjung, Nepal and north and north-east India 81 kilometer north-west of Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal, at 12:11:25pm Bangladesh time.
