DHAKA: A total of 5,000 members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be deployed in the upcoming city corporations elections.

RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed was talking to journalists at his office at EC Secretariat in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar at 11:30am.

He said a total of 268 patrol teams—two teams each in one ward of three cities- will be deployed to avert any kind of untoward situation. Besides, 134 motorcycle patrol teams, 36 striking forces, 134 plain-dressed teams will be posted on the polling day.

RAB headquarters will coordinate among each team, he added.

He further said RAB members will assist other law enforcing agencies to ensure security of voting materials during transportation to polling centers as well as result declaration centers.

The RAB boss said the elite force will try to ensure festive environment of voting thwarting anarchy and electoral poll conduct violation.

Voting to Dhaka South, Dhaka North and Chittagong city corporations is scheduled to be held on April 28 (Tuesday).

A total of 6,029,576 voters, however, will cast their ballots in the polls, indicating that a lawperson against some 76 voters will remain posted during the polls.
