Joypurhat gunfight kills 2 robbers

JOYPURHAT: Two robbers were killed and three others, including two constables, sustained injuries in an alleged “gunfight” with detective branch (DB) of police in Panchbibi Upazila at the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased could not be identified immediately. However, one injured robber was identified as Boisaku Romesh, son of one late Nagen Chandra, hailed from Boliharpur village under Fulbari Upazila of Dinajpur.

Confirming the matter, DB Inspector Abdur Rahim told banglanews that the gunfight took place at Bhutgari area under Awlai Union of the upazila.

He further said on information, DB and Panchbibi Thana police went to detain a gang of robbers, who were taking preparations to rob.

At that time, police opened firing to defend themselves as robbers opened firing aiming them, leaving two robbers killed and one other injured, he added.

Robbers severely beat two DB constables, SI Abdur Rahim added.

He also said police recovered two pistols from the robbers.
