DHAKA: Two people were injured by bullet as Ansar guards at a housing project opened fire on them during a brawl at Swamibagh under Sutrapur thana in the city on Friday morning.

The injured, Kulsum Begum, 40, and her nephew Ripon Mia, 22, were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Witnesses said construction firm Rupayan Housing erected a boundary wall around its housing project on Thursday night with the help of Ansar members. The wall was later demolished by some unknown people.

In this connection, the on-duty Ansar members caught local welding mechanic Ripon Mia in the morning. “Angered by that action, about 50 people swooped on the Ansar members and snatched away Ripon from them,” says a spot account of the melee.

At one stage, the Ansar men opened fire to contain the trouble, leaving the two injured.

Office-in-charge of Sutrapur thana told banglanews24.com.bd that they held two Ansar members- Mahbub and Rezaul- for interrogation over the incident.
