DHAKA: A 15-kilometre gridlock was created on Dhaka-Chittagong highway, following a road accident in Nimsar area of Burichong upazila on Friday morning.
The tailback was stretched from Kutumbapur in Chandina upazila to Nimsar in Burichong upazila till filing of the report.
A good number of vehicles got stranded on the both sides of the accident spot, causing immense sufferings to thousands of passengers amid hot weather.
Highway police said a goods-laden truck tumbled upside down on the highway at 3:30am, disrupting traffic on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway for two and half an hour.
Although the traffic movement resumed after the truck was moved away around 6:00am, the congestion has already created on the highway due to pressure of a huge number of vehicles, they added.
Lokman Hossain, an office staff of the Daily Naya Diganta Dhaka-bound bus from Noakhali, told banglanews that it reached Kutumbapur around 10:00am but the bus took two hours to travel next three kilometers to Madaiya Station.
Highway Police Eliotganj outpost Sub-Inspector Mamun said they are trying to lessen the tailback but bus drivers’ random movement was one of the main obstructions in the effort.
