BARISAL: A robber was beaten to death by angry mob in Ektabazar Kheyaghat area under Hizla Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Yusuf, 35, member of an inter-district robber gang, son of Malek Sardar of Khunna Gobindapur village of the upazila.

Local resident Nasir Uddin told banglanews that a gang of three robbers arrived in Ektabazar Kheaghat area by a trawler, creating panic among villagers.

Subsequently, villagers altogether chased the robbers, caught one of the gang members and gave him a mass beating, killing the robber on the spot.

However, two others of the gang managed to escape.

Hizla Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) M Golam Sarwar confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police sent the body to the district’s Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The deceased was accused in several robbing cases in different thanas, the OC said.
