FROM GABTOLI TERMINAL: Hundreds of commuters remained stranded as the transport owners and workers are enforcing strike in south-western districts.
Earlier on Tuesday afternoon, the strike was imposed as a protest of arresting transport workers over a robbery in a Sohag Paribahan passenger bus at Madhukhali in Faridpur on Monday night.
Bus communication on Aricha-Doulatdia route remained halted, leaving hundreds of passengers in dire sufferings.
Transport workers alleged that driver and helper of the robbed Sohag Paribahan bus went to a local police station for filing general diary (GD) on the robbery. But police detained the complainers. Moreover, police also detained a ticket checker of the bus over the robbery incident.
A Gopalganj-bound passenger Faridur Rahman, who was waiting for a long at Gabtoli bus terminal with his mother Sahela Khatun, wife Salma and a child Sajib, told banglanews that they had come from Chittagong. They are not getting any assurance of bus service to Gopalganj.
A Barisal-bound passenger Arifuzzaman Mridha, who had been waiting for around 14-hours, said that he came to Dhaka to join a job. But he has been posted in Barisal.
‘I have been stranded in the area,’ he added.
A Sohag Paribahan counter-master Monowar Hossain told banglanews that they did not get any permission of running their passenger buses.
