DHAKA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 17 Bangladeshis while they were trying to intrude Malaysia from Shahporir Dip area of Teknaf early Thursday.

Among the detainees, 10 people hail from Narsingdi, three from Narayanganj and Chittagong each and one from Habiganj.

BGB public relations officer (PRO) Muhammad Mohsin Reza confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said the Malaysia-bound 17 Bangladeshis started from Chittagong riding on a boat. Later, they tried to return Bangladesh from Myanmar through Teknaf.

The detainees will be handed over to the thana concerned, BGB sources added.
