Gas emission still on, spot risky

DHAKA: Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Limited managing director Nowshad Islam said the place is very risky as gas emissions are still on the spot following collapse of a part of Sonargaon road and under construction NBL Tower.

He said while visiting the scene located at CR Dutta Road in city’s Karwan Bazar area on Wednesday morning.

Nowshad said, “Gas is continuously emitting from the gas valve located at the collapsed road. Gas emission is not going to stop.”

He said the next valve is also risky. Therefore, the valve, which located opposite side of the road, will be closed. The east side of the street in front of the Sundarbans hotel is being excavated.

Other officers of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Limited were also present at the spot.

Earlier, a part of the under-construction NBL Twin Tower, fell to the ground with huge sound around 7:30am, creating panic in the area.

Reason behind the collapse could not be known immediately. However, no casualty was reported.

The building collapse damaged gas and water lines of the hotel. All services of the hotel have been suspended from now, he added.
