MAGURA: Counting in by-polls to Magura-1 constituency is underway as voting ended in 140 polling centers continuing from 8:00am to 4:00pm Saturday.

Four contesting candidates are Awami League-backed Major General (retd) MA Wahab, independent candidate former mayor of Magura Municipality Tapan Kumar Roy, Bangladesh Nationalist Front-backed AKM Motasin Billa and National People's Party supported Kazi Towhidul Islam.

However, no candidate the BNP-led 20-party alliance contested in the election.

The Magura-1 constituency became vacant after the demise of the ruling AL lawmaker Dr Sirajul Akbar on March 9.
