MAGURA: Ruling Awami League endorsed candidate Major General (retd) MA Wahab has won the by-polls of Magura-1 constituency.

Major General (retd) MA Wahab bagged 93,181 votes while his nearest candidate independent candidate former mayor of Magura Municipality Tapan Kumar Roy got 12,790 votes.

Retuning Officer, also Khulna divisional zonal election officer, Mujibur Rahman announced the results around 7pm.

However, no candidate of the BNP-led 20-party alliance contested in the elections.

Earlier, voting in the by-polls at Magura-1 constituency started at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm.

The constituency became vacant after the demise of the ruling AL lawmaker Dr Sirajul Akbar on March 9.
