DHAKA: Foreign Ministry spotted 1,018 Bangladeshis among the rescued migrants who were trafficked from Bangladesh and Myanmar coasts.
Earlier, the illegal migrants, who got shelter in Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia, were believed to be Rohingyas from Myanmar. But, the ministry primarily identified Bangladesh nationals among the migrants.
Ministry sources told banglanews Sunday afternoon that the Bangladesh ambassadors working in the four countries spotted that there are 200 Bangladeshis in Myanmar, 138 in Thailand, 22 in Malaysia and 658 in Indonesia.
The foreign ministry also sent several lists of the victims’ name and address to the home affairs ministry. The latter ministry will sent the lists to Special Branch (SB) of detective branch of police.
After final identification, the measures will be taken to bring them back.
An officer of the foreign ministry said International Organization of Migration (IOM) helped Bangladesh to return 36,000 Bangladeshis. The government will also seek help to them.
After final identification, they will be brought back through airway, the officer added.
