CHANDINA (COMILLA): Seven people sustained burn injuries as miscreants hurled petrol bomb on a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina upazila early Wednesday.

The injured are-- Anjan Kumar Dey, 40, adviser of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro and Sanjit Sharma, teacher of Rangamati Government College, Suman Chandra Nath, 24, son of Sudhir Chandra Nath of Rangamati, Imran Miah, son of Saidur Rahman of Sadar upazila in Gopalganj, Jahirul Haque, his wife Lovely Akhter of Narayanganj and Khokon Chakma of Rangamati.

Bus driver Sirajul Islam said the Rangamati-bound bus of Unique Paribahan coming from Dhaka was caught on fire when it reached in front of Upazila Gate and Jute Research Centre in the area around 1:00am, leaving Anjan and Sanjib burnt.

Other five people also received injuries as they tried to get down from the bus hurriedly.

Later, the driver with the help of other passengers and helpers douse the fire immediately.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandina Thana Rasul Ahmed Nizami told banglanews that being informed they rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to Chandina Upazila Health Complex.

Later, they were shifted to the Comilla Sadar Hospital.

However, Anjan and Sanjib were transferred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the morning as their condition was deteriorated.

Police, on primary investigation, suspected that some miscreants carried out the petrol bomb attack at the bus.

DGFI Colonel AKM Nazmul Hasan, Comilla DC Hasanuzzaman Kollol, Police superintendent of police (SP) Shah Abid Hossain and other high officials visited the spot around 10:00am.
