SATKHIRA:  Four people have died and seven others sustained injuries after being struck by lightning in Shyamnagar Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as  Sajeda begum Saju, 35, wife of Amjad Ali of  Patrakhola village, Abdul Hmid, 45, of Taranipur village, Riyadh Gazi, 70, Paranpur village and Nurunnahar, 42, wife of Abdur Rahman of Sora village.

Locals said it had been thundershowers since morning. During the rain, thunderbolts hit four villages of the upazila, leaving four dead on the spots and seven others injured.

The injured were admitted to  Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex.

Local source said a cow died after being struck by thunderbolt.

Shyamnagar Thana Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque confirmed the deaths to banglanews.
