Comilla: At least 17 minority people were injured and their dwellings damaged in an attack by neighbours at Adda village in Barura upazila on Wednesday night.

Police and witnesses said Kalpana Das, wife of Gouranga Das of the village, had an altercation with neighbour Ohab Ali on Wednesday noon over a previous land dispute.

“The quarrel heated up when Nitai Das and Monu Das, two of the brothers-in-law of Kalpana, beat Ohab,” says a report from the area.

Following the incident, Monir and Moktar, two sons of Ohab, banded with some of their neighbours and allegedly attacked Gouranga’s house at 9pm in reprisal for the beating of their father.

Among those injured during the attack are Gouranga’s family members Kalpana Rani, Gouranga, Nitai, Monu, Minoti Rani, Jharna Das, Anjali and Sanjay, the sources said.

The injured were admitted into Barura Upazila Health Complex. No case has been filed yet, Barura thana said.
