Security to beef up during Ramadan-Eid

DHAKA: Police has decided to tighten the security measures and traffic management system across the country ahead of holy Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The decision came at a conference on “law and order and traffic management ahead of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr” at the Police Headquarters in city on Thursday with Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque in the chair.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Police Headquarters’ public relation officer AKM Kamrul Ahsan disclosed details about the conference.

At the beginning of the conference, Deputy Inspector General (DIG-operation) of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun presented a plan on overall security preparation ahead of Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

Issues of overall law and order situations, safe travel in rail raod and waterways, passengers’ security, traffic control and management, security during Eid prayers, and prevention of using counterfeit notes were discussed in the conference.

Decision on beef-up security measures was taken to prevent extortion, mugging and criminal activities in capital and elsewhere of the country.

Additional police forces will remain deployed at different bus and launch terminals and railway stations to save the travelers from pickpocket and the Oggam party gangs.

Large number of markets and shopping malls, as far as possible, will be brought under closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in the city and country’s different places for security.

Law enforcing agencies will also patrol the streets till late night to provide security to the mall-goers and the devotees who will offer tarawih prayers.
   
If necessary, police will escort general people during transaction with banks and financial institutions.

Kamrul Ahsan said that no vehicle will be searched on highway without prior information to ensure smooth traffic movement. Highway and district polices will stay alert to prevent robbing and traffic congestion on roads and highways.

Necessary measures will be taken at bus and launch terminals and railway stations to thwart ticket sales in black markets. Security will also be given to the National Eidghah and other Eid prayer grounds.

Decision was also taken to open police control room of the headquarters and every district-unit from July 8 to the threes days after Eid-ul-Fitr with a view to coordinate country’s overall law and order situation.

The IGP asked all police personnel to perform duty with professionalism and sincerity to ensure people’s safety during Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr.

The IGP also put emphasis on showing ‘zero tolerance’ to narcotics and ordered to increase ant-drug drives and to conduct mobile court operations against adulterated food and formalin-mixed fruits.

Bangladesh Police Academy Principal Additional IGP Naeem Ahmed, Additional IGP (administration and operations) Mokhlesur Rahman, Additional IGP Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, and heads of different police units, among others, were present at the conference.
