DHAKA: Customs authority detained a man along with 170 gold pieces weighing 1.5kg at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport of the city on Friday.

The detainee was identified as Emdadul Halat Khan, 45.

Airport Customs Authority Assistant Commissioner Priyanka Das confirmed the matter to banglanews.

She said the authority searched the luggage of Emdadul on suspicion while he was crossing the Green Channel area and found the gold pieces hidden in flux and knives around 12:15pm. 

The market price of the seized gold has been estimated at Tk 70 lakh.

A case was filed in this connection, the assistant commissioner added.
