Robber kingpin killed in Faridpur ‘gunfight’

FARIDPUR: The ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a gunfight with police while preparing for committing robbery in Kanaipur area of the district early Saturday.

The deceased was identified as M Selim Sheikh alias Selim Dakat, son of M Mohibul Haque of Gopalpur Upazila under Madhukhali Upazila. 

Confirming the matter, Faridpur police super (SP) M Jamil Hasan told banglanews that Selim was accused in 12 cases filed with different thanas of Dhaka, Manikganj and Faridpur.

Madhukhali Thana officer-in-Charge Ruhul Amin told banglanews that acting on top-off that a gang of robbers gathered for robbery, police raided the Kanaipur area around 3:00am.

Sensing the presence of lawpersons, robbers opened fire on them that forced police to retaliate with gunfire.

At one stage of the gunfight, robber kingpin Selim has died after being hit by bullets, the OC added.

The lawpersons also recovered a foreign made pistol, a one-shooter gun, one round bullet from the spot.

However, Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam sustained injuries during the gunfight.
