DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday expressed her profound shock in the death of Ekushey Padak awardee, also Bangladesh Press Institute chairman, Habibur Rahman Milon.

The premier, in a condolence message, said the death of Habibur Rahman created large vacuum the field of journalism in the country.

The nation will remember Habibur Rahman’s contribution to democratic movement during the autocratic rules after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members, and his fight for the establishment of freedom of expression.

The premier prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members, relatives and collogues.

Meanwhile, National Press Club president Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman and general secretary Kamrul Islam Chowdhury expressed their deep condolences in the death of Habibur Rahman Milon, who was also the advisory editor of Bangla daily Ittefaq and a former Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) president.

Veteran journalist Habibur Rahman Milon, who had long been suffering from kidney and other ailments, passed away at Labaid Specialized Hospital around 3:00am on Sunday.
