JESSORE: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained 22 Bangladeshis, including women and children, who were returning from India, on Benapole-Gatipara road Monday night.
Later, BGB officials handed over the detainees to Benapole Port Police Station.
However, the BGB members failed to detain any human traffickers.
Sub-Inspector of Benapole Port Police Station Tajul Islam told banglanews that the detainees went India to work as housemaids and in factories.
BGB members detained them from the area while they were returning Bangladesh with the help of traffickers around 11:45pm.
A case was filed with the police station against the detainees, he added.
SI Tajul further said the detainees will be produced before the Jessore court Tuesday noon.
Recently, trespassing in the border area and trafficking has increased. The number of detainees in the last four days rose to 63.
