ACC sues 5 Karnaphuli Gas Co officials

DHAKA: Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a law suit against five including former managing director (MD) of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Ltd (KGDCL) Sanwar Hossain on Monday on charge of corruption and irregularities.

ACC deputy director Hritik Saha filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station in Chittagong at noon.

The other four accused are former secretary of KGDCL Ameer Hamza, also current deputy managing director, former manager Abdullah Al Mamun, general manager (admin) Chowdhury Ahsan Habib and former MD Jamil Ahmed Alim.

However, the state anti-graft body did not make Dr Hossain Mansur, former chairman of Petrobangla, an accusation in the case.

The case statement said the accused were involved with corruption during manpower appointment.

Another ACC deputy director Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, ACC started investigating corruption and under handling charges of KGDCL over a year ago. Hossain Mansur was alleged as chief perpetrator.

ACC officials said they kept him under the post case investigation purview.

Earlier on June 2,   ACC gave approval to file the case.

ACC commissioner Sahabuddin Chuppu told banglanews that they did not find any documents about involvement of Hossain Mansur in the incident.

Moreover, ACC would take actions against him if his involvement is proved in the investigation.

Earlier on May 21, ACC deputy director Hritik Saha and assistant director Al Amin submitted a report asking recommendation to file case against Hossain Mansur for appointing people without any circular.
