41 Bangladeshis to return from Thailand Wednesday

DHAKA: 41 more Bangladeshis, who were trafficked into Thailand through sea route, are set to be brought back to Dhaka from Thailand on Wednesday evening.

The trafficking victims will arrive home by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines around 7:30pm.

Of them, 13 hail from Cox’s Bazar, six from Jhenaidah, five each from Sirajganj and Narsingdi, four from Satkhira, three from Magura, two each from Bandarban and Jessore and one from Faridpur districts.

Bangladesh ambassador to Bankbook Saida Muna Tasneem said that in the regional meeting held in Thailand on May 29, government promised to bring the trafficking victims back to home.

As part the pledge, 41 people are being brought back from Suan Phlu Immigration Detention centre in Thailand on fully government’s cost.

From 2013, a sum of 919 Bangladeshi trafficking victims were brought back to Dhaka from Thailand.

From May 1 this year, Bangladesh Embassy to Thailand sent 80 trafficking victims, who were rescued from Thailand-Malaysia border.
