Expat welfare minister in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain reached Malaysia early Wednesday.

A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying him and his entourage, landed at Kuala Lumpur Airport at 2:10am (local time).

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Shahidul Islam received him at the airport.

Hundreds of leaders and activists of Malaysia Awami League and its front organizations also welcomed the minister.

Locals Awami League leaders hoped that a positive result will come out over the long-awaited labor market issue.

Khandker Mosharraf Hossain is leading a seven-member delegation. During the visit, bilateral talks will be held over labor market in Malaysia.

Members of the delegation are Prime Minister’s principal secretary Abul Kalam Azad, expatriate and overseas Employment Misnitry Secretary Khandaker Iftekhar Haidar, Law Ministry draft wing secretary Shaheedul Islam manpower, employment and traning Bureau (BMET) Director General begum Shamdun Nahar and Ezpatriate Welfare Minister’s personal secretary Mohammad Ibrahim.

Besides, on behalf of the Bangladesh High commission to Malaysia, deputy high commissioner Foysal Ahmed, Labor consular Sayedul Islam Mukul and defense adviser Arif Mahmood were also present at the airport.

An officer of high commission told banglanews that the minister is set to meet Malaysian PM Najib Razak on Wednesday where Malaysian labor market for Bangladeshis will be discussed.

Later, the delegation will hold meetings with Home Minster and Human Resources Minister of Malaysia.

Sources said the visit is set to seek new horizon in manpower export in Malaysia as Bangladesh government is putting importance on the demands of workers in non-government sector.

However, the issues of boat migrants as well as the unearthing mass graves in Thailand, bordering Malaysia will also be discussed during the visit, sources added.

Besides, the necessity of opening non-government visa had been published in Malaysian media in recent time.

Bangladesh embassy first secretary SK Shahin said the visiting minister is expected to hold several meetings with Malaysian government officials.

The minister will also hold several meetings with expatriate Bangladeshis, the envoy added.

Moreover, Malaysia Awami League joint convener Maqbul Hossain Mukul said that they will accord a reception to the minister on behalf of expatriate Bangladeshis.
