Khan Jahan staff remanded over cocaine haul

CHITTAGONG: A district court placed a five-day remand for Khan Jahan Ali Limited officer Golam Mustafa Sohel over brining cocaine with imported sunflower oil through Chittagong port.

The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Judge Farid Alam passed the order on Tuesday.

Moreover, law enforcers detained two persons from Dhaka for their alleged involvement in the cocaine incident.

Earlier on Monday, Chittagong Metropolitan asked to show Sohel arrested in response to a police plea.

Chittagong additional deputy commissioner (prosecution) Kazi Muttaqi Ibnu Minan told banglanews that police sought a five-day remand for Sohel and the court permitted it.

Detective Branch (DB) of police is now investigating the matter following the order of Chittagong Metropolitan Police commissioner M Abdul Jalil.

On Sunday, Port Thana sub-inspector (SI) Osman Gani filed the case under Narcotic Act where Khan Jahan Ali Limited chairman Nur Ahmed made accused.

However, Sohel is the manger of Prime Hatchery, a concern of the organization.

On June 6, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department of Chittagong found liquid cocaine from a container of sunflower oil, imported from Bolivia.

Sources confirmed that 185-kg of cocaine is found in one of the drums of the container.

Customs Intelligence became sure about the cocaine after completing two tests at two laboratories including Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in Dhaka.

On June 8, samples were taken from the container in presence of customs intelligence officials and sent it to laboratory for test.
