2 killed in Dinajpur BGB fire

DINAJPUR: Two alleged smugglers were killed in a gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh members in Birampur Railway Station area of the district on Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Shahin, son of Shukur Dafadar and Sultan Ali, son of Abdur Rashid at Jagannathpur village of Birampur upazila.

Police said that BGB members were searching the bags and luggages in the train to seize illegal goods in the afternoon. But, the bag owners deterred the BGB members to search.

At one stage, they attacked the BGB members and opened fire to them. For self defense, the BGB men responded the attack, leaving the duo dead on the spot.

Birampur Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Amiruzzaman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

However, protesting the death of the two people, locals besieged the railway station area claiming that the deceased were not smugglers.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and took the situation under control, the OC added.
