Abdul Momen made chair of Asia Pacific Group

DHAKA: Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the United Nations and also Bangladesh Ambassador AK Abdul Momen has been elected chair of the Asia-Pacific Group of UN.

The information was revealed in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday.

According to the release, he was elected as chairman getting the support of 55 Asia-Pacific countries of the United Nations’ Asia-Pacific Group.

Once before, he was elected Chair of the Asia-Pacific Group and served perfectly.

The 193 member states have been divided into five groups to facilitate the work of the UN. The groups are -- African, Asia-Pacific, Latin American, Eastern and Western Europe. The United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Britain are incorporated in the group of Western Europe.

Asia-Pacific group has the largest number of states and the states have large population and bigger in size also. There is also huge discrimination in defining principle.  As a result, the Group has to manage careful enough.
