Committee formed to probe cocaine haul

DHAKA: Chittagong Metropolitan City police formed a 10-member probe body to investigate into the cocaine consignment seized at Chittagong port.

Detective Branch (DB) of police deputy commissioner Kusum Dewan will lead the probe body.

The other members of the committee include Detective Branch additional deputy commissioner SM Tanvir Arafat; three assistant commissioners M Qamruzzman, Foyjul Islam and Jahangir Alam; Kotwali Zone assistant police commissioner M Moinuddin; Port Thana OC AKM Mahiuddin Selim, Akber Shah Thana OC Sadip Kumar Das and city detective police inspectors Abdur Rouf and Zahedul Islam.

CMP commissioner M Abdul Jalil Mandal passed the order on Friday night.

City Detective Branch of police additional deputy commissioner SM Tanvir Arafat confirmed the matter to banglanews.

City police additional commissioner (crime and operation) Debdas Bhattyachariya had a meeting with committee members on Saturday morning.

DB police arrested four people so far for their alleged involvement in cocaine consignment seized at Chittagong port.

The four arrestees are Garments Exporter organization Mandol Group commercial executive Atiqur Rahman, officer of a developer company Mostafa Kamal and Cosco Bangladesh Shipping Lines Limited manager (corporate, sales and marketing) AK Azad and Khan Jahan Ali Limited officer Golam Mostafa Sohel.
